      Rated 5 out of 5�by Glad I upgraded I finally broke down and upgraded my UPS. I had a very good UPS from APC, but since I now use Mac OS 10.8.5, I could not make use of the old UPS. The old UPS did not have a usb port. Well, I did buy it new in 2003 and it worked fine with the older Mac OS 9.x. The new one has a usb port and works great so far. All I had to do was unpack it, open the battery cover, plug in the red connector, replace the cover and plug in the power cord and usb connection to my trusty old iMac. Other than possibly needing to replace the battery at some distant time, I am certain I will get a long life from this UPS. September 21, 2015

      Thank you for your inquiry. Although we do not manufacture UPS units specifically for pellet stoves, we recommend using a Smart-UPS with these stoves instead of a Back-UPS. Smart-UPS provide a pure sine wave while on battery power, which is something typically required by non-computer type loads.

      Hello. Thank you for your question. Runtime will depend on how much electricity the computer is using during the outage. For example, if your computer draws 200W, you'll get around nine minutes of runtime.

      When there is a power outage the BE550G will switch to battery power. When the unit switches to battery power it starts to beep to warn you that it in fact is using the internal battery to power your equipment. This serves as a warning to users in case it is not obvious that the power has gone out.

      The beeping serves as a way to warn and remind users that the unit is on battery so they can safely save and shutdown anything that they may be working on.

      This unit does have an automatic unattended shutdown feature but it will not save your work for you. We recommend putting your computer into a hibernate default setting so upon reboot all your work will still be open

        The APC by Schneider Electric Back-UPS BE550G provides instant battery power to your critical electronics when the power goes out, keeping you connected and available both personally and professionally. Additionally, the BE550G UPS (uninterruptible power supply) offers guaranteed surge and lightning protection for attached devices. By connecting your valuable devices, you are ensuring these investments against potentially irreversible damage. When the power goes out, the APC BE550G will power critical devices including home networking equipment; allowing you to maintain your internet connection. This allows you to work productively, avoid the loss of valuable data, and safely shut down equipment.

        The BE550G includes PowerChute Personal Edition software which provides UPS management options, safe system shutdown, and energy monitoring to enable cost savings and prevent potential data corruption. This backup power supply unit offers eight surge protected outlets, four of which provide UPS battery backup, and a 330-watt/550-volt ampere output power capacity.

        The BE550G UPS offers guaranteed backup battery power for your electronic devices. When power is interrupted or fluctuates outside safe levels, the BE550G instantly provides clean battery power to your sensitive electronics.       • Prevent Data Corruption with PowerChute Software

        APC PowerChute Personal Edition power and energy management software is included. PowerChute prevents data corruption by automatically saving files and shutting down your system in an extended power outage or low-battery condition. PowerChute monitors and displays energy usage and reduces costs via customized energy management planning. Connect the USB cable that's included with your UPS backup unit to your computer to easily use the software.

        Phone and Network Data Line Surge Protection

        In addition to standard power line surge protection, the BE550G UPS battery backup also provides protection from dangerous "backdoor" surges that travel along telephone and network data lines. Just route the phone or network data line through the BE550G UPS backup unit to protect your devices from lightning, surges, and spikes.
